Planning Applications in Barnsley
Barnsley Council's Planning Explorer lets you find current and past applications, view plans and check decisions. Start with a postcode, street or application reference; use the recent list if you want to see newly registered proposals across the borough.
Search by postcode or application number
- Open the simple search and enter a postcode, street, proposal keyword or full application reference in the Keyword box.
- Select Search. References include a slash between the year and number, so copy the full reference from a council letter or site notice.
- In the results, select the application's Reference to open its details. Check the site address and description to make sure you have the right proposal.
For more filters, use the advanced search. To find proposals near a location, open the council's planning applications map. The recent list has Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days and Last Year views.
View plans and PDF documents
- On the application details page, select Documents to jump to its files.
- Look under Plans for drawings and location plans, and Application Form for the submitted form. Other document groups depend on the application.
- Select a document's filename to view it. PDF links show the filename and file size; read the council's viewing and copyright notice before using the material.
Comment or object before the deadline
Check Comment Until in the application's Summary and the Consultation Expiry Date under Important Dates. Use the date for that application, rather than counting from when you found it. Where available, Add Comment + opens the council's comment form.
Anyone can comment, but Barnsley Council requires your name and address and does not consider anonymous or confidential representations. Comments can be made available for public inspection and copying. Read the form's privacy information before submitting.
Explain the planning effects: for example, privacy, the appearance of the area or road safety. Property values and ownership disputes are not planning considerations. If the online form is unavailable, the council's commenting guidance gives email and postal options; include the application reference.
Check a decision or a missing application
Check the Decision field and the decision notice when it is published. An application showing Under Consideration has not yet been decided. Most decisions are delegated to officers; others go to the Planning Regulatory Board. The council explains the stages in its planning permission process.
A new application may still be being registered or waiting for missing information. If you need an update on your own application, contact the case officer shown on your validation letter or under Further Information in Planning Explorer.
