Barnsley Libraries is running a series of creative workshops and cultural events this autumn and winter, led by local artists and makers. The Library Lates programme offers hands-on sessions in landscape painting, terrariums, gel plate printing, textile crafts and spoken word performances.

Many sessions have been subsidised through Arts Council England funding to keep events affordable. A limited number of free Golden Tickets are available for people receiving unemployment or disability benefits, full-time students and senior citizens.

Upcoming sessions include:

September: Autumnal Rag Wreath Workshop (Wednesday 2 September, 5.30pm–7pm); Family Rag Wreath Making (Monday 14 September, 4.30pm–6pm); Landscape Painting Workshop (Thursday 10 September, 5.30pm–7pm).

October: Family Felt Decorations Workshop (Monday 5 October, 4.30pm–6pm); Moth Night – In My Own Words spoken word performances (Wednesday 7 October, 5pm–7pm); Gel Plate Printing (Thursday 15 October, 5.30pm–7pm).

November: Family Mini Terrariums Workshop (Monday 2 November, 4.30pm–6pm); Landscape Painting Workshop (Wednesday 11 November, 5.30pm–7pm); Terrariums Workshop (Thursday 19 November, 5.30pm–7pm).

December: Family Christmas Cards Poly Printing (Wednesday 2 December, 4.30pm–6pm); Charcoal Christmas Cards (Monday 7 December, 5.30pm–7pm).

Why attend

Library Lates has helped hundreds of people across Barnsley discover new creative interests and improve their wellbeing, according to feedback from participants. Attendees have praised the chance to learn from professional artists, make new friends and have dedicated time for creativity.
