Barnsley Council is inviting digital businesses and technology companies to showcase career opportunities at a new event designed to help school staff understand the borough's growing tech sector.
Ctrl + Alt + Learn: Digital Careers will take place on Thursday 1 October 2026 from 1pm to 4.45pm at the Digital Media Centre and Barnsley College's SciTech Centre. The event will bring together headteachers, careers advisers, careers leaders and curriculum staff from primary and secondary schools.
What's on offer
Digital businesses and organisations with digital opportunities can exhibit at marketplace stalls and share their expertise. School staff will hear from experts at TECH SY, explore the business marketplace, experience virtual reality demonstrations, visit DMC02 and tour Barnsley College's Digital and Creative Industries and e-sports departments.
Why the event matters
The event aims to strengthen links between education and industry, helping school staff understand local opportunities and inspiring young people to consider careers in one of Barnsley's fastest-growing sectors. Barnsley has been recognised as the UK's first Tech Town and is home to a growing digital economy, with the Digital Media Centre and SciTech Centre supporting businesses from start-ups to established companies.
Councillor Luke Wheat, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Assets, said: "Many young people and school staff are not yet aware of the fantastic digital careers available right here in our borough. This event will help bridge that gap by bringing together schools and employers to showcase the huge range of opportunities within the sector."
Businesses interested in exhibiting should register their interest via Barnsley Council's contact form.
