A festive tipi is opening at The Glass Works Square this December, operated by True North Brew Co., an existing tenant at The Glass Works with a bar in Market Kitchen.

The True North Tipi will run from Friday 4 December until New Year's Eve, opening from noon to 11pm daily, and until midnight on New Year's Eve.

What to expect inside

The tipi is designed as an Après Ski experience with a striking festoon-lit exterior, winter foliage and outdoor seating. Inside, guests will find evergreen garlands, twinkling fairy lights, soft rugs and cosy throws gathered around a central fire pit.

A 12-line bar will serve draught beer, wine, spirits, mulled wine, spiced cider and festive cocktails. Non-alcoholic and seasonal hot drinks will also be available.

Events and activities

True North will host a weekly programme including brass bands, live music, Christmas crafts and festive wreath-making workshops. The venue will also offer bespoke Christmas party packages and private hire opportunities.

Christmas on The Square

The tipi is part of the wider Christmas on The Square programme. The Glass Works Square will also host the Artisan Street Fayre from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December and Friday 18 to Sunday 20 December, and a Young Trader Market on Saturday 12 December.

Cllr Luke Wheat, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Assets, said the tipi would give people another reason to visit Barnsley town centre throughout December, following feedback from the previous year.
