Forty-two secondary-aged pupils from Barnsley Town Concert Band have completed a five-day tour of Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, performing three concerts to large audiences across Europe.
The tour included a performance in Maastricht, where the band played to a packed audience on the same day that violinist André Rieu was performing in the city.
Local Performances
Closer to home, young musicians from Barnsley Music Service also performed at the Brassed On! Music Festival in Barnsley town centre during Barnsley's Big Weekend in July. The event showcased talented young musicians from across the borough and celebrated the town's musical heritage.
Skills and Confidence
The tour and performances provided young musicians with opportunities to develop their musical skills, build confidence, make friendships and represent Barnsley on an international stage.
Councillor Andy Cudworth, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Assets at Barnsley Council, said: "It has been a fantastic summer for Barnsley Music Service and I'm incredibly proud of all the young people who have represented our borough so brilliantly. These experiences help young people build confidence, develop new skills and create memories that will stay with them for a lifetime."
