A by-election will take place in Penistone East ward on Thursday 20 August. The election follows the resignation of Councillor Kay Hughes due to personal reasons.
Residents of Penistone East ward are encouraged to vote for a new councillor to represent their community. The candidates standing for election will be announced on Friday 24 July.
How to register and vote
To take part, you must be registered to vote by midnight on Tuesday 4 August. Registration takes five minutes and can be completed online at gov.uk/register-to-vote using your National Insurance Number.
You can vote in three ways: in person at a polling station, by post, or by appointing a proxy to vote on your behalf. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 5 August. The deadline to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday 12 August.
Photo ID requirement
On polling day, voters must bring photo ID to the polling station. If you do not have accepted ID, you can apply for free ID at gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate or by submitting a paper form to Barnsley Council. Applications must be received by 5pm on Wednesday 12 August.
