Community groups and organisations across Barnsley are being invited to apply for funding to support local people in becoming more active.

The What's Your Move Investment Fund is open to groups with ideas that help inactive people move more in ways that feel welcoming and accessible to them. Successful applicants can receive up to £5,000 to develop projects responding to local needs and creating long-term opportunities for residents to be active.

What the funding supports

Projects should help people who are not currently active to move more, feel better and build healthier lives. The fund is part of Barnsley's What's Your Move campaign, which encourages residents to find ways of moving that work for them and experience the physical, mental and social benefits of being active.

Councillor David Goddard, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Transport, said being active can make a significant difference to people's health, wellbeing and confidence, particularly for those doing very little activity. "Even small amounts of movement can have a positive impact," he said. "What works for one person or community might not work for another. That's why this investment is about backing local ideas, shaped by local people, which make it easier for residents to move more in ways that feel right for them."

How to apply

Community groups and organisations can submit an expression of interest online. The Sport and Physical Activity team will contact successful applicants to help develop ideas further.

During September and October, community groups, sports clubs and service providers are invited to in-person and online workshops to find out more about the fund, discuss their ideas and get support developing projects for investment.
