A new gallery space at Barnsley Digital Media Centre (DMC) has officially opened on Friday 2 October, hosting its first exhibition featuring work by four local artists.

The exhibition, titled meanwhile…, showcases artwork by Ailish Treanor, John Ledger, Kelly Rankin and Mark Evans. The artists developed their work during summer 2026 in a temporary studio on Regent Street, supported by Axis, where they had space to experiment with new ideas and materials.

Partnership and funding

The gallery space has been created through a partnership between Barnsley Council's Culture Development service and the DMC Experience Team. The project is supported by Barnsley Council's Cultural Development Fund programme, Storying Barnsley.

Councillor Sam Burdett, Cabinet Spokesperson for Communities, said: "We're delighted to open this new gallery space at Barnsley Digital Media Centre. It provides an exciting new opportunity for local artists to showcase their work and connect with audiences right here in Barnsley. The gallery reflects our commitment to supporting the borough's thriving cultural sector. By creating more opportunities for artists to develop and exhibit their work, we are helping to strengthen Barnsley's cultural offer and celebrate the talent that exists across our communities."

Exhibition details and opening hours

The meanwhile… exhibition will run until 2 November 2026 in DMC 01. The gallery is open on weekdays from 9am to 4pm. Entry to both the launch event and the exhibition is free.
